The Legion & You

Perth Memorial

"In Flanders’ fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses,

row on row,

That mark our place,

and in the sky

The larks, still bravely

singing, fly

Scarce heard amidst the guns below."

It was from the seeds of these powerful words, written in a lull from the horrors of the First World War trenches, that the blood red poppy of Flanders` Fields, the world-wide symbol of remembrance, was born.

The simple poppy, that still to this day grows in the countryside across the battlefields of two world wars, now lies at the very heart of The Royal British Legion Scotland, one of Scotland’s most famous and established charitable organisations caring for ex-servicemen and their families.

If ye break faith with us who die

we shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders’ Fields.

(From “In Flanders Fields” by John McCrae, 1915)
